Summary
Language access is the focus of this resolution. It would recognize April as National Language Access Month and urge better translation and interpretation so people with limited English proficiency can use public programs. The resolution notes that more than 71 million people speak a language other than English at home and about 25.7 million have limited English proficiency, describes barriers that make it harder to get health care, work, benefits, or police help, and encourages federal, state, local, and community groups to raise awareness and hold observances and programs.
