National Extreme Heat Awareness Week would be designated July 3 through July 10, 2026 to boost public education and preparedness for extreme heat. It would encourage research and policy work, promote community and school programming, and invite public and private groups to hold ceremonies and activities to raise awareness. The resolution highlights that extreme heat is the leading weather-related cause of death, estimates more than 1,300 U.S. heat-related deaths each year, and notes regional burdens such as over 570 deaths in New York and over 750 in Arizona as of 2024.
