Stuck On Hold Act
Sponsored By: Senator Kennedy, John [R-LA]
In Committee
Summary
Requires the VA to give callers an anticipated wait time and offer an automatic callback when waits exceed 10 minutes. It would require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to implement, within one year of enactment, an automated system on each VA customer service phone line that informs callers of expected wait times and automatically offers a callback for waits over 10 minutes. The Secretary must also issue guidance to bring the average wait time for those lines to 10 minutes or less. The requirement would not apply to the toll-free veterans hotline under 38 U.S.C. 1720F(h) or to emergency department phone lines.

Automatic callbacks for VA callers
If enacted, when you call a Department of Veterans Affairs customer service phone line, you would hear the estimated wait time. If the wait is more than 10 minutes, you would be offered an automatic callback. The Secretary would have to issue guidance to try to get average wait times down to 10 minutes or less. This would not apply to the toll-free veterans hotline under 38 U.S.C. 1720F(h) or VA emergency department phone lines, and the system would have to be in place within one year of enactment.
