Pesticide Makers Beg EPA for Cancellations: Farmers, Comment by December

Published Date: 7/31/2025

Notice

Summary

The EPA got requests from companies to cancel some pesticide products and wants your thoughts before deciding. If approved, these pesticides will no longer be sold or used after the 180-day comment period ends in late 2025. This affects farmers, sellers, and anyone using these pesticides, so keep an eye on the deadlines to avoid surprises or money loss.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Listed pesticides may be cancelled

If EPA grants the listed voluntary cancellation requests, the pesticide registrations compiled between April 1, 2025 and June 30, 2025 will be cancelled after a 180-day comment period that ends in late 2025. If cancelled, those pesticide products will no longer be sold or used except as allowed by the final cancellation order.

Post-cancellation sales limited by final order

If EPA issues final orders cancelling registrations, any sale, distribution, or use of those products after the cancellations will only be allowed if it is consistent with the terms described in the final Federal Register order. That means continued sale or use may be restricted or allowed only under specific conditions set by EPA in the final order.

180-day public comment window

EPA opened a 180-day public comment period (covering requests received April 1, 2025 through June 30, 2025) that runs through late 2025. You can submit substantive comments during that period; EPA says it intends to grant the cancellation requests at the close of the comment period unless it receives substantive comments or the registrant withdraws the request.
