FAA Orders Airbus Landing Gear Fixes for Safety

Published Date: 9/2/2025

Rule

Summary

The FAA is making sure all Airbus A318, A319, A320, and A321 planes stay safe by requiring a fix for some landing gear parts that missed a special nickel coating. Airlines must replace these parts and can’t use the faulty ones anymore. This keeps flights safe without delay, though it means some quick repairs and costs for the airlines.

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Airlines must replace unplated landing pins

The FAA requires operators of Airbus SAS Model A318, A319, A320, and A321 series airplanes to replace affected main landing gear (MLG) aft pintle pins from a batch that did not have nickel plating applied to the inner bore. The rule also prohibits installing those affected parts and therefore creates required repair work and costs for aircraft operators.

Removes unsafe landing-gear parts to preserve safety

This airworthiness directive applies to all Airbus A318, A319, A320, and A321 series airplanes and addresses an unsafe condition where a batch of MLG aft pintle pins lacked nickel plating on the inner bore. By requiring replacement of the affected parts and prohibiting their installation, the AD is intended to address that unsafe condition and help maintain flight safety.
