IRS-SSA Match to Verify SSI Benefits

The Social Security Administration (SSA) will use Internal Revenue Service (IRS) return information to verify eligibility for, and the correct amount of, Title XVI Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for qualified aged, blind, and disabled applicants and recipients (and their deemors). The matching program starts January 1, 2026 and will run for 18 months.

Specific Tax and Payment Data Shared

Under the agreement SSA will electronically send IRS a finder file with Social Security numbers and name control, and the IRS will disclose to SSA payee account number, payee name and mailing address, payee taxpayer identification number (TIN), payer name and address, payer TIN, and income type and amount. This data exchange is part of the matching program that begins January 1, 2026 and lasts 18 months.
