Banks Snag Extra Year for FDIC Logo Glow-Ups

Published Date: 11/28/2025

Rule

Summary

The FDIC is giving banks more time to update their digital signs and ads to show they’re insured. Instead of March 1, 2026, banks now have until January 1, 2027, to comply. This delay helps banks avoid stress while the FDIC reviews new rules about digital channels and ATMs.

Banks Get More Time to Update Digital FDIC Signs

The FDIC delayed the compliance date for displaying the official digital sign on digital deposit-taking channels and ATMs (12 CFR 328.4 and 328.5) from March 1, 2026 to January 1, 2027. This gives insured depository institutions extra time to update digital signs and advertisements.

Internal Policies Need Not Cover Digital Sign Rules Yet

The FDIC says the policies and procedures required by 12 CFR 328.8 (compliance date May 1, 2025) do not need to address the requirements in 12 CFR 328.4 or 328.5 until January 1, 2027. Banks can delay incorporating the digital-sign specifics into those procedures until the new compliance date.

Delay Aims to Reduce Consumer Confusion

The FDIC delayed the March 1, 2026 compliance date to January 1, 2027 in part because the digital-sign rules had the potential to cause consumer confusion. The delay gives the FDIC time to consider changes intended to minimize consumer confusion about insured status on digital channels and ATMs.
