Rule

Summary

If you own or operate Boeing 787 airplanes, listen up! The FAA is updating safety rules to fix leaks under lavatory sinks by requiring a new, improved faucet control module that stops leaks for good. Starting March 9, 2026, you’ll need to replace the old parts, keep testing for leaks, and install moisture devices—helping save money and keep flights safe and dry.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Mandated faucet module replacement and leak fixes

If you own or operate certain Boeing 787-8, -9, or -10 airplanes (specific line numbers listed in the AD), you must continue repetitive visual inspections until you replace the faucet control module (FCM) with FCM P/N AFUT000200A0004. Beginning March 9, 2026, the AD requires replacing the FCM (which terminates the repetitive inspections), performing a leak test, installing moisture management devices, and completing any on-condition repairs described in the service bulletins.

Estimated compliance costs and affected fleet

The FAA estimates the AD affects 155 U.S.-registered Boeing 787 airplanes. Estimated per-airplane costs include $170 per inspection cycle for the retained general visual inspection (GVI), $6,276 to replace an FCM (3 work-hours at $85/hr plus $6,021 parts), $8,325 to install moisture management devices (79 work-hours at $85/hr = $6,715 plus $1,610 parts), and $85 to review maintenance program documentation. The FAA also estimates aggregate costs on U.S. operators (for example, $972,780 for replacement if applied across the fleet) and notes some costs may be covered under warranty.

Clarifications and limited exceptions for some airplanes

The AD includes specific exceptions and corrections that reduce or clarify work for certain airplanes: Group 4, Configuration 3 airplanes are not required to do the Table 1 and Table 2 actions in the Boeing requirements bulletin; the AD corrects station (STA) numbers (replacing 1218/1232/1256 with 1233/1257/1281 where noted); it allows installing a new or serviceable part instead of reinstalling a kept part; it accepts Jamco procedures to replace FCM P/N AFUT000200A0001 with P/N AFUT000200A0004; and it revises Configuration 1 descriptions to account for production-installed P200 moisture devices.
