From February 7 to 22, 2026, the Coast Guard will block off a 2-mile stretch of the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal for electric fish barrier testing. Two‑Mile Canal Closure for Fish Barrier Tests

If you operate a boat on the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal, a 2‑mile section from Mile Marker 295.5 to Mile Marker 297.5 will be closed for electric fish barrier testing from February 7 through February 22, 2026. The closure is enforced each day from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and you may not enter, transit, or anchor there unless you get permission from the Captain of the Port Lake Michigan or a designated representative.
