CFPB continues bank data collection

The CFPB is asking OMB to extend its information collection for Truth in Savings (Regulation DD) under OMB Control Number 3170-0004 and is seeking comments by March 26, 2026. The agency estimates 171 private-sector respondents and a total of 561,632 annual burden hours to provide the required disclosures and records.

Required disclosures help consumers compare

Truth in Savings (TISA) and Regulation DD require depository institutions to disclose interest rates, the annual percentage yield, fees, and other account terms at account opening, upon request, and when terms change. Periodic statements must show fees imposed, interest earned, and APY, which helps consumers compare deposit accounts and make informed choices.

Recordkeeping preserves evidence for enforcement

Regulation DD requires depository institutions to retain evidence of compliance so records that might contain evidence of violations remain available to Federal enforcement agencies and to private litigants. This record retention creates compliance obligations for institutions while ensuring records can be used in enforcement or private legal actions.
