Summary

The VA is rolling out a new application for the VET TEC 2.0 program, helping veterans get training in cool tech jobs outside traditional college paths. Comments on the application process are open until April 27, 2026, so now’s the time to weigh in!

Analyzed Economic Effects

5 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 3 costs, 0 mixed.

Who Can Apply for VET TEC 2.0

You can apply for VET TEC 2.0 if you are a Veteran under age 62 who served at least 3 years (36 months) on Active Duty, or if you are a Service member within 180 days of discharge who will have served 3 years (36 months) by your discharge date. You must have received a discharge under conditions other than dishonorable to be eligible.

Types of Training Covered

VET TEC 2.0 lets Veterans enroll in high-technology training courses that are outside the traditional definition of higher education so they can obtain skillsets desired by employers. The DOLE Act authorizes VA to provide educational assistance for programs that begin prior to September 30, 2027.

Annual Participation Limits and Real-Time Tracking

VA will develop the ability to track the number of VET TEC 2.0 enrollees in real time because the program has annual participation limits. That means enrollment may close once annual limits are reached.

Training Providers Must Use Participation Agreements

Training providers who want their programs approved under VET TEC 2.0 must use a Participation Agreement to seek approval from VA. VA will develop the Participation Agreement and related enrollment processing mechanisms.

Application Time and Estimated Respondents

The VA estimates the VET TEC 2.0 application will take about 30 minutes per respondent, with an estimated 4,412 respondents and a total annual burden of 4,412 hours. Comments on the information collection are due by April 27, 2026.
