Renewal to Operate Welded Cab Doors

Loomis Armored US, LLC has applied to renew a 5-year exemption that would let it continue operating armored vehicles with the original driver and passenger cab doors welded shut and two security-enhanced doors behind the cab. FMCSA previously granted a similar exemption effective October 18, 2021 through October 13, 2026, and is accepting public comments on the renewal until May 4, 2026 before deciding whether to grant it.

Scope Increase to About 1,600 Vehicles

Loomis’s renewal request would extend the exemption to approximately 1,600 armored vehicles and a similar number of drivers, up from about 500 vehicles covered in the prior exemption that ran from October 18, 2021 through October 13, 2026. FMCSA will review the application, safety analyses, and public comments (due May 4, 2026) before deciding whether to allow the larger fleet to operate under the exemption.
