Show full summary
  • Families and local training programs in territories would get a dedicated funding pool each year, improving the chances that HPOG training grants reach territory communities.
  • Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) would be removed from eligibility under a specific HPOG subsection, which changes CNMI's access under that rule.
  • Territory-based applicants and organizations would gain a clearer path to funding because the Secretary must award at least 2 grants to eligible entities located in territories when enough qualified applications exist.
  • These changes would take effect on October 1, 2025.

Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

More job training grants for territories

This bill would reserve 5% of yearly health job training grant funds for U.S. territories. The agency would also have to award at least two grants to groups based in a territory, if enough qualified applications are submitted. If you live in a territory, your school, nonprofit, or training program could have a better shot at funding. These changes would start October 1, 2025.

CNMI loses a training grant pathway

The bill would remove a CNMI-specific eligibility line for these health job training grants. CNMI applicants could no longer rely on that clause when applying. This could limit access for some CNMI programs or students, depending on other rules. These changes would start October 1, 2025.
