Temporary faculty seat on Alaska university board

The University of Alaska board grows from 11 to 12 members and must include a current full-time, tenured faculty member. Eligible faculty work at the Anchorage, Fairbanks, or Southeast campus. Each campus faculty senate elects two nominees under the Governor’s rules; the first six-person list is due February 1, 2027. The Governor chooses one nominee within 60 days, subject to legislative confirmation. The faculty regent serves a two-year term starting June 1 and loses the seat upon losing full-time or tenured status. Vacancies follow the same selection process, with a replacement required within 60 days. Board business requires seven members present, up from six, and approval by a majority of the full board. On February 1, 2033, the faculty-seat requirement ends, board membership returns to 11, and the attendance minimum returns to six. The law specifies no direct household payment, fee, or benefit.
