New membership rules for Alaska boundary commissioners

Beginning January 31, 2027, Alaska’s Local Boundary Commission has six governor-appointed members with overlapping six-year terms. Each of the four judicial districts gets one seat, the unorganized borough gets one, and one represents the whole state. District and unorganized borough members must keep their main home in the area they represent. They must also be registered to vote in a precinct there. The commission selects its chair from its members, and the law designates the statewide member as chair. Members appointed after the effective date serve six-year terms; earlier appointees keep their existing terms.
