Lower Alabama taxes on family care products

From September 1, 2025, through August 31, 2028, Alabama exempts covered personal-use purchases from state sales and use taxes. Covered items include baby formula, baby bottles, baby wipes, breast pumps and pumping supplies, diapers, maternity clothing, and menstrual products. Pumping supplies include milk storage bags, nursing pads, nursing bras, and similar items mainly for pumping and storing milk. Diapers include those for adults who cannot control bladder or bowel movements. Maternity clothing includes postpartum wear, and menstrual products include disposable and washable versions. County and city sales and use taxes still apply unless local officials adopt an exemption by resolution or ordinance. The Alabama Department of Revenue must adopt rules and prepare the tax forms and instructions needed to carry out the law.
