For tax years beginning January 1, 2024, or later, Arkansas’s college savings plan follows federal rules dated January 1, 2024. Qualified withdrawals and rollovers from Arkansas or other states’ 529 college savings plans are exempt from Arkansas income tax. This includes qualifying transfers to a Roth retirement account on or after January 1, 2024. The money must move directly between trustees into a Roth account for the college savings account’s named beneficiary. The transfer must qualify as tax-free under federal 529 rules in effect on January 1, 2024.
