Beginning July 1, 2025, Arkansas Teacher Retirement System members have another way to support a disability retirement claim. Members can submit a service-connected Veterans Affairs rating of 100% permanent and total disability. They can still submit a favorable Social Security disability decision finding they cannot perform their current work duties. Either document creates a presumption that the member qualifies for disability retirement benefits. The system can overcome that presumption with contrary evidence, so benefits are not guaranteed.
