Arkansas pension funds cover shared management costs

Beginning July 1, 2027, the judges’ and state police retirement funds pay the Arkansas Public Employees’ Retirement System (APERS) each fiscal year to administer their systems. Each payment equals APERS’s total administration costs multiplied by an average that weights the system’s investment share and membership share equally, at 50% each. Those shares use year-end investments and active, inactive, and retired members across all three systems. The state’s Chief Fiscal Officer must approve transfers, which are recorded by that officer, the Treasurer, and the Auditor. The law also requires all judicial retirement administration costs to come from the Judges Retirement Fund, with board approval.
