Faster tax answers for homeowners at closing

Arkansas county collectors must answer written or electronic tax requests from people or businesses handling a real estate closing. They must reply in writing or by email within three business days. The reply must list real estate taxes on the parcels being transferred and the owner's related overdue personal property taxes. If the collector misses the deadline, they must accept the real estate taxes without requiring those overdue personal property taxes. Those personal property taxes remain owed. At ownership transfer, collectors must also accept real estate taxes when the seller has paid all overdue personal property taxes. Outside the law's exceptions, collectors who knowingly accept real estate taxes without requiring personal property taxes due in their records face a $25–$100 fine upon conviction.
