Longer survivor benefits for Arkansas workers’ children
Beginning July 1, 2025, the law raises the usual age limit for dependent-child survivor benefits from 18 to 23. It covers the Arkansas Public Employees’ Retirement System and State Police Retirement System, including police Tier One, Tier Two, and pre-retirement benefits. Children no longer need to be full-time students. Benefits end when the child dies, marries, or turns 23. The age limit can extend beyond 23 if a court or the retirement system’s board finds the child physically or mentally incompetent. That extension lasts while the incompetency continues.
