The Arkansas Ethics Commission sets a campaign donation cap for each election, using a $2,000 base dated January 1, 2015. Donors cannot give, and candidates cannot accept, amounts above the cap. It covers individuals, qualifying political parties, county party committees, legislative caucus committees, and approved political action committees. Every odd-numbered year, the commission adjusts the cap using the percentage the U.S. Labor Secretary certifies to the Federal Election Commission. The federal formula is the version in effect on January 1, 2025. The commission must act as soon as practical, by the later of 30 days after certification or its next regular meeting. It rounds the result to the nearest $100. The cap takes effect when posted on the commission’s website and applies back to the federal certification date. The commission also makes the cap available to state officials, candidates, committees, and the public. These updates do not require the normal state rulemaking or agency rule-review process. The law includes an emergency clause for immediate effect.
