Arkansas judges may, but need not, add a fine equal to the usual fine for a work-zone moving violation. The driver must be convicted, and construction personnel must be present when the violation occurs. The law extends this penalty to mobile work zones, where work lasts for a limited time. These zones use signs, traffic-guiding devices, barriers, or work vehicles with high-intensity lights that rotate, flash, oscillate, or strobe. A mobile zone runs from its first sign or device to its last. For the extra mobile-zone fine, equipment establishing the zone must display a sign warning that fines are doubled. Covered workers include state transportation staff, county and city staff, and their contractors.
