Arkansas bans ranked-choice voting

Arkansas bans ranked-choice voting for elections and candidate nominations for all local, state, and federal offices. This method lets voters rank candidates, with counting rounds that eliminate candidates until one wins a majority. Existing and future local ordinances that conflict with the ban are void. The ban exempts qualified voters entitled to absentee voting under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act as it existed on January 1, 2025. It also exempts uniformed-service members and U.S. citizens living abroad who vote under Arkansas Code § 7-5-406.
