Fertilizer businesses get billed after reporting

The Arkansas Department of Agriculture now invoices the responsible party after receiving its monthly fertilizer tonnage report. Payment no longer accompanies the report. The fee stays at $2.40 per ton or part of a ton. A monthly report totaling less than one ton carries a $2.40 fee.

State oversees fertilizer checks and damages

The Arkansas Department of Agriculture directs inspectors who sample fertilizer and fertilizer-material shipments. It also approves containers used to send samples for testing or inspection. The State Plant Board sets market values for certain materials used to make fertilizer. Those values help calculate damages when official tests find that fertilizer falls short of its guaranteed contents.

Fertilizer sellers need state registration approval

Fertilizer manufacturers, wholesalers called jobbers, and manipulators must register with the Arkansas Department of Agriculture. They cannot sell or offer fertilizer or fertilizer materials without approval from the Department or its authorized representative. Forms must list brands, manufacturer or manipulator names and addresses, and information required by State Plant Board rules.
