Communities must vote on landfill fee contracts

Arkansas law requires landfill host fee contracts to receive a vote at a regularly scheduled host community meeting. The host community means the county and city where a proposed, current, or expanded landfill is located. Each contract term lasts no more than four years and must end in December of an even-numbered year. Contracts can be renewed any number of times, each for up to four years, at the same or a renegotiated fee. Contracts must list a beginning date and an end or extension date; host fees cannot continue forever without renewal. The city mayor must sign the contract, or the county judge when a municipality is not the closest government unit.
