Arkansas local governments cannot adopt rules banning vegetable gardens on residential property. You can garden on your own private property or another person's private property with the owner's permission. Protected gardens include ground plots and raised soil beds growing vegetables, herbs, fruits, flowers, pollinator plants, leafy greens, or other edible plants. Local governments can still regulate drought water use, fertilizer, invasive species, and weeds. They can also set reasonable garden size and location rules, including rules for side yards or backyards. The law supports growing food for personal use or sharing without selling it.
