Arkansas IDs must show male or female

Every Arkansas driver’s license and state ID must show “M” for male or “F” for female, ordinarily matching your identity document. Accepted documents are original or amended birth certificates, passports, and identification documents issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. If your document shows “X” or no gender, you must submit an Office of Driver Services form choosing “M” or “F.” The Office cannot issue your license or ID without that form, or issue one showing “X” or no gender. The Office may also change records for unexpired licenses or IDs marked “X” to match its identity-document records. It must send notice by first-class mail when it does. Cards must also include your full legal name, birth date, card number, digital photo, home address, and signature. They must have security features against tampering, counterfeiting, or copying, plus common machine-readable technology with defined minimum data.

Arkansas ID gender changes require proof, fees

You can request a gender-marker change using an Office of Driver Services form. You must submit an original or certified copy of an amended birth certificate. It must come from the Arkansas Department of Health, another state’s vital records office, or another governmental agency. The Office can approve a change only after receiving the form and required proof. Approved changes appear on a renewed or duplicate license or ID; an amended duplicate requires the applicable existing fee. The provided text does not state the fee amount. A duplicate driver’s license is unavailable while your driving privileges are suspended or revoked. If the Office denies your request, it must mail you written reasons by first-class mail.
