More home tax relief for disabled veterans

Beginning with assessment years starting January 1, 2026, Arkansas expands which homes qualify for the disabled-veteran property-tax exemption. A homestead includes the main home of an eligible disabled veteran, surviving spouse, or minor dependent child. It can include up to 40 adjoining acres not used for commercial purposes. For a disabled veteran living in the home, qualifying ownership includes a revocable trust the veteran formed. It also includes an irrevocable trust naming the veteran as a beneficiary. An eligible limited liability company must have only the veteran, or the veteran and spouse, as members. For an irrevocable trust, the veteran must give the county collector a signed, notarized, file-marked trust copy. Company-owned homes require the veteran to give the county collector the required proof of eligibility.

Personal property tax limits for disabled veterans

Beginning with assessment years starting January 1, 2026, Arkansas limits the disabled-veteran exemption for tangible personal property. Items must be used for noncommercial purposes and registered in the disabled veteran’s name. Items that fail either condition do not qualify for this exemption and may be subject to property taxes.
