Arkansas Medicaid covers dental care with sedation

Arkansas risk-based provider organizations must provide medical and dental coverage for sedation dentistry for eligible Medicaid populations they serve. This covers sedative medicines during routine or complex dental care, including minimal, moderate, and deep sedation and general anesthesia. The law includes sedation dentistry providers as direct service providers. The organizations must process claims or ensure provider payment within federal deadlines, including medical and dental claims for sedation dentistry. To the extent possible, this care system excludes capitated transportation and dental benefits, but sedation dentistry is not excluded. Other listed exclusions are services from school employees, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, and human development centers. It also excludes adult physical-disability waiver services through ARChoices in Homecare or Arkansas IndependentChoices.
