Arkansas school training funds shift uses
Arkansas keeps base school training funding at up to $41 per student, using each district’s previous school year average daily enrollment. That money still supports teacher skills, teaching methods for administrators and classroom aides, student achievement, and required bus-driver training. Up to $16.5 million above the base maximum must support the LEARNS Act to improve student results. The state education agency can award this money through grants to eligible groups and set rules for its use. The law removes the agency’s prior option to partner with outside groups to develop research-based professional learning communities.
