Arkansas audiologists can provide more hearing care

Arkansas audiologists can evaluate, diagnose, manage, and treat hearing and balance conditions in the human ear. They can prescribe, order, sell, dispense, and fit hearing aids and external sound processors to correct or relieve those conditions. A sound processor is a nonsurgical external unit attached to an internal bone-anchored hearing device or cochlear implant. Audiologists can conduct health screenings and remove objects or earwax from the outer ear canal. They can order and perform office tests without radiation on that canal, solely to evaluate hearing and balance disorders. They can order cultures, blood tests, and imaging only for hearing or balance conditions in the human ear. They cannot use or interpret those results to diagnose or treat conditions, or prepare, operate, or perform imaging. The law excludes implant surgery and procedures that cut, burn, or permanently alter human tissue.
