Cities pay covered officials' retirement benefits

Arkansas cities pay retirement benefits directly, without a requirement to use their general funds. Covered officials include city attorneys, clerks, clerk-treasurers, deputy clerks, first-class city mayors, first- and second-class city treasurers, and second-class city recorder-treasurers. Deputy city clerks' payments require the city's governing body to set aside money for that purpose. First-class city treasurers' payments require governing-body approval. Benefit amounts stay unchanged, and payments remain monthly where already required.
