Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

County election officials gain more flexibility

Arkansas county election commissioners can help campaign for write-in candidates running in the county they oversee. The campaign restriction for ballot-listed candidates remains, with its existing exception. County election boards can choose hand counting or electronic counting. Write-in votes no longer have to be counted first. Official returns use the machine's printed return plus absentee votes; the rule drops separate references to early and write-in votes.

Fewer filing requirements for write-in candidates

Arkansas law removes the requirement for write-in candidates to file a political practices pledge. It also removes the provision for specifying a write-in filing deadline in the document calling a vacancy election.
