Funding for Arkansas education building repairs

Beginning July 1, 2025, the law provides up to $5 million from the Educational Buildings Maintenance Fund. Arkansas’s education department can use it to renovate, repair, improve, maintain, and operate four department-owned buildings in the Capitol Complex. Covered costs include grounds care, equipment maintenance contracts, insurance, cleaning, and major maintenance. Grants, donations, federal funds, and available unused funds can supplement the funding. Contracts and project commitments cannot exceed State Treasury funds actually available. The department cannot use its other maintenance and general operations appropriations for this work. Spending must follow applicable state purchasing, accounting, budget, and fiscal-control rules unless another law provides an exception. It must also match the purposes recorded in official budget materials, minutes, and testimony. This funding supports state buildings, not direct household payments or benefits.
