New funding for rural medical student training

The law creates the Arkansas Rural Preceptorship Program to support medical students’ supervised training in rural communities. Placements are at participating clinics, hospitals, federally qualified health centers, or other healthcare facilities. Eligible schools are the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine, New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University, and Alice L. Walton School of Medicine. The Division of Higher Education runs the program and reimburses participating schools at a daily rate for up to three weeks per student. Funding can come from public or private sources, but the law sets no payment rate or total funding amount.
