Arkansas requires runoffs for county and municipal offices, including justice of the peace, when more than two candidates run and none wins more than half the votes. The top two candidates face a runoff four weeks after the general election. For municipal offices, this replaces the old winning threshold: at least 40% of votes and a 20-percentage-point lead. If either top-two candidate withdraws before general election results are certified, the remaining candidate is declared elected. No runoff is held in that case.
