Public employees gain federal service credit

An active Arizona public retirement member can earn up to 60 months of service credit for federal temporary personnel service, if active the day before it begins. The member must return to the same employer within 90 days after release from service or a service-related hospital stay. A service-related disability that prevents a return, or death during or from service, also qualifies. Employer and member contributions fund the credit, but the member does not have to repay employer-paid contributions. Federal military reemployment and emergency-response law exceptions still apply.
