Commute benefits for peace officers and firefighters

Arizona treats peace officers' and covered firefighters' injuries or deaths during direct travel to or from work as work-related. This applies only to workers’ compensation eligibility, and the person must not be engaged in criminal activity at the time. Covered firefighters include state firefighters and members of city or town fire departments, fire district departments, or fire authorities. The law does not create employer liability for civil damages from workers’ negligent or intentional conduct during these commutes.
