A county board can set up a way to accept offers for tax-deed land that did not sell at auction. This route applies only when the land does not qualify for the listed public-purpose, nearby-owner, or homeowners' association sales. The board does not have to sell the land, and the law sets no price.
A homeowners' association can buy tax-deed land when the county assessor finds it is part of a common area the association maintains. If an offer is pending when the land is set for auction, the board must remove it from the auction. The law sets no purchase price.
A county board can sell tax-deed land to an owner of nearby property used for a home, business, or farming. The parcels must once have had the same owner, and the tax-deed parcel must not be separately usable under local rules or recorded common-area restrictions. The buyer must agree to request joint property assessment. If several nearby owners offer, the board must choose the owner whose property most recently shared ownership with the tax-deed parcel.
