2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.
A landowner can ask to add adjoining land to a sanitary or fire district. The district must find that inclusion benefits both sides, and a city or town must approve land within its boundaries. When a city or town annexes property, it joins the designated fire district on the same date; fire districts generally cannot add land already in another fire district. Districts may spend money to help with boundary changes. Older options for nearby, noncontiguous land in large counties have ended: one ended August 1, 2014, and another ran from August 2, 2012, through July 1, 2015.
For covered district petitions, support must come from owners of more than half of taxable property units and people who own more than half of the area's assessed value. Real and personal property owners can sign, but owners of property that is not taxable cannot. Certain exempt property is left out of the assessed-value calculation. The law uses full cash value for property assessed by the state and limited property value for property assessed by a county, unless another law says otherwise.
