Youth education program becomes optional

The adjutant general may establish Project Challenge, but the law does not require it. The governor must approve the decision, and the program is subject to legislative appropriations. It serves people under 20 who left high school and have not been adjudicated delinquent, using a paramilitary setting to help them earn a general equivalency diploma. The adjutant general may also accept and spend other lawful public or private funds for the program.

More support contracts for Arizona Guard

The Arizona adjutant general can make contracts with individuals or political subdivisions, with the governor’s approval. These contracts support Guard training, emergency operations, aircraft maintenance and safety, aircraft movement or storage, and recruitment and retention. The law sets no funding amount or end date.
