Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 2 mixed.

Extra credential rules for security workers

Applicants who miss a 45-calendar-day deadline to send requested documents have their application and related registration certificates suspended. The suspension lasts until the department gets the documents it needs to decide the application. A worker seeking armed security guard registration must get a separate certificate and identification card for each sponsoring licensee.

Security agencies report business changes

Private security agencies must notify the department in writing within 30 calendar days after a change to the business name, address, associates, or directors.

More criminal checks for licensees

The Arizona Department of Public Safety can conduct periodic criminal history checks to confirm continued qualifications. Checks can cover private investigator and security agency applicants, employee registrants, and registration-certificate applicants or holders. The law sets no check schedule or fee.

Longer licenses for agencies and guards

Private investigator and security agency licenses last four years instead of two. Security guards and listed training instructors also renew their certificates every four years instead of every two. Agencies and registrants can renew after the former 90-day limit, but they must apply and pay the required fees. Private investigator agencies must also file the required bond, and no one can do regulated work while a license or certificate is expired.
