New controls on district spending

The Arizona Department of Education must notify a county school superintendent when it finds district overspending without prior notice. It must also take the steps required by the overexpenditure law. County superintendents cannot issue payment orders for covered spending outside the budget or above budgeted amounts that have not already been spent. The limit does not apply when the county board authorizes the spending or the department confirms in writing that budget money is available.
