3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.
To meet the training requirement, you must either finish an entry‑level administrative services program the Commission approves, or complete a one‑year supervised internship the Commission approves. If AB 959 is also in effect under the bill’s conditions, the internship must be run by a school district, county office of education, or a regionally accredited college. The Commission also reviews its preservice, professional development, and supervision rules at its next pathway review.
The preliminary administrative services credential is valid for five years from your first day in an administrative job, full or part time. It cannot be renewed. To stay in an admin role after five years, you must earn the next credential or other required qualifications.
The law lets a valid California occupational or physical therapy license count toward a preliminary administrative services credential. Full-time school-based OT or PT work now counts toward the required five years of experience. A local educational agency may ask for up to a two-year waiver if you finished a commission‑approved admin program, hold a clear or life credential or license, and have an admin job offer. A credential issued in part on an OT or PT license does not let you supervise or evaluate teachers unless your district, county office, or charter school decides you have extra education, experience, leadership training, or an advanced degree. For these rules, a local educational agency means a school district, county office of education, or charter school.
