Stricter gill net permit rules for fishers

The Department of Fish and Wildlife cannot issue new gill or trammel net permits. Current permit holders may renew only under Fish and Game Commission rules and must pay the fee in Section 8683. Until January 1, 2027, a holder with a valid Section 8681 permit who took and landed fish in at least 15 of the last 20 years may transfer the permit to any qualified person. Transfers must follow commission rules and include the Section 8683 fee. Beginning January 1, 2027, a qualifying holder may make one transfer only to a family member; after that, the permit cannot be transferred again.
