The board can set each director’s monthly pay up to $1,000. The board may raise pay by the California CPI, starting the first day of the next fiscal year after adoption. If a monthly stipend is used, you must attend all regular board meetings that month to get it; $100 is deducted for each committee meeting you miss. If you miss a regular meeting, you may be paid $100 per meeting instead, up to $500 for the month. Missing a meeting while on authorized district business counts as attended, and an ordinance may allow up to two excused absences per year. Necessary travel and personal expenses are reimbursed under Government Code 53232.2 and 53232.3.
If the State Mandates Commission finds this law creates state‑mandated costs, the state reimburses local agencies and school districts under Government Code Part 7. The law does not set dollar amounts.
The law requires AC Transit board candidates to file nomination papers with the county elections official where they run. You must provide at least 50 voter signatures from your ward or pay a $150 filing fee in lieu of signatures.
The law moves AC Transit to seven directors, each elected by one ward. Each director must live in the ward and be a registered voter there. Candidates may gather nomination signatures anywhere in the ward. Directors serve four-year terms, and elections happen every two years for expiring seats. Terms for winners in 2026 run Dec 5, 2026 to noon Jan 6, 2031; in 2028, Dec 1, 2028 to noon Jan 3, 2033. From Jan 4, 2033, new terms start the first Monday after Jan 1 following the election. The law also repeals two older code sections tied to prior rules.
