In Alameda, El Dorado, Santa Clara, and Ventura that set up the pilot, the district attorney can ask a court for a gun violence restraining order. In these pilot counties, the DA and the DA’s office count as law enforcement for these cases. Only counties that adopt the pilot can use this power. Starting April 1, 2027, the DA must send yearly data to the UC Davis Firearm Violence Research Center and make the data available to the Department of Justice and the Judicial Council on request. This filing authority ends January 1, 2032, and the chapter ends January 1, 2034 unless extended.
