The law lets pupils wear tribal regalia or religious or cultural items at graduation and related events. The pupil and family decide what counts. No preapproval is required. If the item makes a cap incompatible, the school cannot force a cap. Adornment covers items worn with or instead of the cap, or attached to the gown. This applies to public and charter schools.
Schools can still prohibit any item likely to cause a substantial disruption or material interference with a graduation or related event. This limit applies even when adornments are otherwise allowed.
