Mattress recycling fee and buyer info

If you buy a mattress in California, you pay a recycling charge. Sellers must show it as a separate line on your receipt. With a written agreement to send the fee to the recycling group, it may not appear on your receipt. Sellers must give you information about the charge and options for free dropoff or pickup of used mattresses. Starting 90 days after the department approves the program budget, sellers must send collected fees to the recycling group under its rules. The law does not set the fee amount.
